I know what you’re thinking? “What are e-book clubs? How in the world is that going to work?”
Well, they do work, and here’s why:
With e-book sales overtaking print books, it’s only a matter of time before they overtake book clubs, too. In starting my own book club with a coworker quite recently, we discovered it was really simple. Just a few rules, a location each month, and an active Goodreads account put us ahead of our game.
“But doesn’t everyone need an e-reader to be a member of an e-book club?”
Well, yes that’s true to a degree. But that doesn’t mean that everyone in your e-book club must have an e-reader. In the wake of growing e-book sales, libraries have started lending e-books and e-readers themselves. Check your local library for rules and regulations. They are also available at many retailers online for a fractional cost, especially if you Continue reading →

There’s no question that the written word has always been a powerful agent of change. An idea, well-articulated, can instigate action and influence lives.
In 1517, Martin Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses to a church door and sparked the Protestant Reformation.
In 1924, poet and critic André Breton wrote the Surrealist Manifesto and started an avant-garde movement and artistic style that would permeate culture and influence creative expressions for decades.
In 1976, Louise Hay created a small pamphlet that would transform into her definitive manifesto on personal growth and well being — You Can Heal Your Life. The reach and influence she gained from those works gave her the momentum to become a world-renowned author, publisher and speaker whose ideas have inspired countless lives.
With powerful and innovative technology at your fingertips, you no longer have to post messages on doors or print pamphlets. Never before has it been so easy to create a book. Never before has it been so simple to deliver your message to the masses in a way that is both cost-effective and professional. Continue reading →
It’s human nature. We all have self talk with ourselves on a daily basis: How am I doing? What could I do better? How do I measure up?
We live in a competitive world with constant pressure to do our best. But in order to have a real understanding of where you stand, you need to have the right measuring stick. Measuring the success of your published e-books is no different.
Working with authors and internal customer service departments for over two years now, I know there is one word that can bring anxiety to an author who is trying to measure their book success: royalties. Continue reading →
So you want to turn your blog into an e-book? How exactly, would one do such a thing?
When I thought about this venture, I thought of my own blog. I know that there are categories in WordPress, Blogger, and other platforms, but those in no way encompass all the things I talk about on my blog – and I couldn’t just copy and paste those posts into a Word document.
That would take too long.
The great news is that I don’t have to sit and copy and paste everything. There are a variety of services (some that are even free) that can help you prepare your e-book for Booktango and our free ebook editor.
The first one I found (which was a complete winner in my book) is called Anthologize. It’s a plug-in for WordPress that allows you organize your blog posts by dragging and dropping them into a special section, and then export the finished product into a format Booktango will read. Today at Booktango we announced our Rolling in the Green Royalty Program, an e-book publishing first allowing authors to publish for free and keep the entire sales price on all e-books published prior to July 4, 2012. If an e-book is sold for $4.99 through the Booktango bookstore, the author gets the full $4.99. So what about books sold through other outlets? Well, e-book retailers will still take their standard fee, and you’ll get the rest. Booktango takes nothing.
There’s now a whole new sense of freedom in the publishing world because of Booktango. Authors finally have the choice to publish on their own terms, knowing they are earning the highest dollar amount per e-book sold. It’s truly the best time in history to be an author.
Think about the last thing you bought. What convinced you to buy it? Were you satisfied with it?
In my own purchasing experience, I’ve found that my satisfaction with a product, e-book or service depends on whether my perceived value of the item exceeds the price that I paid.
I’m usually happy with my purchase if the following conditional statement applies:
If Price Paid < Chris’ Perceived Value of the Product Purchased, then Chris is a satisfied customer and will likely recommend the product
There are many ways that we derive value from e-books, including: the cover, the book’s content, friends’ opinions of the e-book, the price, and the enjoyment or learning potential. As an author you want to increase a reader’s perceived value from the first moment they see it.
