Blogging tips: 5 simple ways to build relationships with your readers

In our fast-paced digital age it’s easy to get lost in the noise.  Unless you take some active steps to make your voice heard, you will struggle to build a fan base.

Luckily Booktango can help. By following these five easy steps you can build the fan base you need to promote and sell your book.

Post good content. Who do you want to read your blog? When posting, you must consider who these people are and write content that they want to read. If your blog is interesting and has original writing, readers will share it with their friends, ultimately gaining you more followers.

Write regularly. You don’t have to write every day, try to write at least once a week. Find what works for you and stick to it. Treat blogging as an element of your business and give your readers the fresh, regular content they want.

Invite guest posts. This is a great way to add new content and a new voice to your blog. Contact bloggers you read and ask them to guest post on your blog. Or, find other bloggers who accept guest posts and get your name out on their blog.

Accept comments.  It can be very tempting to shut off the comment feature on your blog. But, this will make you appear inaccessible and impersonal. Instead, invite comments. Leave questions at the end of your blog posts for readers to respond to. Then, when someone comments on your blog, whether it is positive or negative feedback, respond appropriately. If this still feels daunting, set up comment guidelines and encourage your readers to follow it.

Be personal. Finally, be yourself. You readers come to your blog to feel in a small way like they know you. Periodically post pictures of your dog or your kids. Connect with your audience in a way that makes them see you are a real person with goals and struggles just like them.

Blogging is an excellent way to connect with and get to know your readers. You may start small, but with good content and a friendly, personal attitude you will soon build many relationships with your readers. Plus, Booktango can help you get started with our Blog Tour service if you need some professional guidance.

  1. I like the part about making sure you are yourself. Sometimes when I am writing my blog I think that perhaps I should re-word things to sound more professional and make the tone less conversational, and then I remind myself I have to do that all day at work!

  2. Visit my blog ‘A Paraplegic Life’ about a small town girl who has Spina Bifida and is just trying to be an ordinary girl while trying to achieve her dreams like anyone else.
